Maria Menounos
Maria found out she was facing a personal health crisis as she cared for her mother who was suffering from stage 4 brain tumors. In February 2014 Menounos started experiencing troubling symptoms. She tells PEOPLE that she had been suffering from headaches and lightheadedness since February 2014. "My speech was becoming lost and I had difficulties using the Teleprompter". A MRI discovered that Menounos had a size golf ball-sized meningioma brain tumor that was pushing into her facial nerves. Menounos booked an appointment to visit her neurosurgeon mother, Dr. Keith L. Black. They scheduled surgery on June 8 for Menounos' 39th birthday. She says that he said, "I am 98 percent certain it is benign, but we will not know until we actually get there," The complex procedure, that took about seven hours Dr. Black was able to get rid of 99.9 percent of the tumor. It was considered to be benign. The doctor. Black told her that it's feasible to observe the tumor come back in six-to seven percent of cases. These odds are my best option. Menounos has been admitted to the hospital for six days, is now at home and spending time healing.
